CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- The 42nd-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to 18th-ranked North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center Wednesday evening in Chapel Hill. The Demon Deacons fall to 9-8 overall and 2-4 in the ACC while the Tar Heels improve to 19-2 and remain undefeated in league play at 5-0.

North Carolina wasted no time grabbing a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point to begin the match. 21st-ranked Nicholas Monroe and Geoff Boyd handled Derrick Spice and Todd Paul, 8-3 at No. 1. Andy Metzler and Brad Pomeroy sealed the early lead for the Tar Heels with an 8-6 victory over Brett Ross and Andrew Hamar in the No. 2 slot.

UNC continued to roll right through the singles portion of the match, dropping just one of the six matches. Wake Forest's David Loewenthal dropped the opening set to Metzler at No. 3, but fought back for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory in that match. In a showdown between two of the ACC's top singles players, North Carolina's 31st-ranked Monroe got the best of #37 Spice, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 position.

The Deacons return home to face #30 Miami Saturday at 1 p.m. at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
