No. 63 Hokies Rally to Edge Wake Forest 4-3
April 1, 2012
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Wake Forest won the doubles point for the fourth time in the ACC season, but No. 63 Virginia Tech rallied in singles to slip by the Demon Deacons 4-3 on Sunday in Blacksburg, Va.
Wake Forest (9-12, 0-6 ACC) took the opening point in dramatic fashion. Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee defeated Patrick Daciek and Lucas Oliveira 8-4 at No. 2 and then saw their teammates David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar rally from a 7-4 deficit to take down No. 46 Luca Somen and Corrado Degl'Incerti Tocci 9-8 (3).
The Deacons looked to have carried momentum into singles, winning the first set in three of the six matches, but the Hokies's Tocci pulled out a three-set victory over Adam Lee in the decisive No. 4 singles match to give Virginia Tech (8-8, 4-3 ACC) the win. It was the Demon Deacons' fifth 4-3 loss this season and the third of those to be decided by the last match on court.
Danny Kreyman earned his fifth ranked win of the season at No. 2 singles, taking down No. 123 Lucas Oliveira 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Alex Tsai picked up the first ACC singles win of his career at No. 6 singles, downing Hunter Koontz 6-2, 6-3.
Wake Forest will return to Winston-Salem for a six-match homestand to close out the regular season. The Demon Deacons will next be in action on Friday when they host Maryland at 3 p.m.
