Miami Edges Deacons 4-3

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C - After gliding out to a 3-0 lead, the Wake Forest men's tennis team couldn't clinch a victory over Miami and fell 4-3 to the Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon in Winston-Salem. Miami jumped into the second in ACC standings with the win and Wake Forest now ranks third. The Demon Deacons (16-7, 6-2) took wins in all three doubles matches. Steven Forman and Jonathan Wolff stretched the Wake Forest advantage to 3-0 with quick straight set wins in singles at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Miami (11-7, 6-2) got its first win of the day when 15th-ranked Daniel Vallverdu topped No. 21 Cory Parr 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1. Carl Sundberg defeated Iain Atkinson at No. 4 to set the overall score at 3-2. The fate of the match fell at Nos. 5 and 6, where David Hopkins and Jason Morgenstern faced three set battles against Miami competitors. Hopkins dropped at 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 decision to Keith Crowley and Morgenstern fell 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 to Ignacio Taboada at No. 6. On Wednesday, April 8, Wake Forest will host North Carolina for USTA Day. There will be complimentary food for the first fans to arrive, as well as a chance to win Wake Forest and USTA prizes. The match will begin at 3 p.m. with the gates opening at 2:30.
