BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team came up short against Virginia Tech, falling 5-2 to the Hokies in Blacksburg on Friday afternoon.

The Deacons fall to 11-7 (5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) while the Hokies improve to 12-5 (5-3 ACC).

Virginia Tech took an early lead in the match by picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point. Wake's 14th-ranked team of Steven Forman and Iain Atkinson got the victory in the top doubles match, defeating No. 74 Sebastien Jacques and Yoann Re 8-6.

No. 56 Forman evened the score for the Deacs with a 6-2, 6-4 upset win over No. 38 Re at the top singles spot. But the Hokies won four of the five remaining singles contests to clinch the overall match.

Jonathan Wolff picked up the final point for Wake Forest, rallying after losing the first set to Patrik Daciek at the No. 4 singles spot to finish out a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) win.

The road will not get any easier for the Deacons as they travel to take on No. 1 Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers shut out NC State 7-0 at home on Friday.
