No. 25 Deacons Upend No. 22 Virginia Tech to Finish Regular Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 25 Wake Forest men's tennis team upset No. 22 Virginia Tech 6-1 to finish regular season play. Wake Forest will begin postseason action at the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Cary, N.C. next week.
Steven Forman and Cory Parr quickly took down Virginia Tech's Nicolas DeRobles and Patrick Daciek 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. The point was decided at No. 2, where Wake's Carlos Salmon and Iain Atkinson rallied from a 5-2 deficit to take Brandon Corace and Pedro Graber to a tiebreaker. The Deacs pulled a 7-3 win to clinch the doubles point.
Atkinson had to face Corace again at No. 5 singles, but couldn't get ahead and fell 6-2, 6-2 to knot the score at 1-1. Steven Forman wrapped up next, defeating Pedro Graber 6-4, 6-4 to push the Deacons back in front.
Cory Parr played No. 52 Yoann Re at No. 1, for his last collegiate match at Leighton Stadium. Parr raced to a 6-1 first set finish and followed with a 6-3 victory in the second set to give the Deacons a 3-1 advantage.
David Hopkins clinched the match at No. 4, where he gave the fans a show with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 over Sebastian Jacques.
Wake Forest finishes the regular season with an 18-8, 8-3 record. The ACC Tournament will begin on Thursday in Cary, N.C. The Deacons will receive a first round bye and begin play on Friday, April 17. The seeding for the tournament will be announced later this weekend.
