Final Stats

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Wake Forest's No. 56 Steven Forman upset No. 3 Michael Shabaz of Virginia, but it was the only win the Deacs would get on the day, as the Cavaliers cruised to a 6-1 victory over Wake in Charlottesville, Va., Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the 18th-ranked Deacons drop to 11-8 (5-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), while the No. 1 Cavaliers improve to 29-1 (9-0 ACC).

Virginia fielded a deep lineup in which all three of its doubles teams and all six of its singles competitors were nationally ranked. The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches.

Forman picked up the only point of the day for the Deacons at No. 1 singles, upsetting No. 3 Shabaz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 - the highest ranked opponent he has ever defeated. Forman is now 9-3 on the season against nationally ranked opponents and 2-1 against players ranked in the top 10.

Wake put up a good fight in most of the other matches as No. 101 Iain Atkinson fell in three sets to No. 39 Jarmere Jenkins of UVA, and Jonathan Wolff came up on the wrong side of two close sets, losing to the Cavaliers' No. 53 Drew Courtney, 7-6(1), 7-5.

The Deacons have the week off before hosting Boston College on Friday and Maryland next Sunday.
