ATHENS, Ga. - Wake Forest's Romain Bogaerts ended his run in the NCAA Singles Championship Thursday as he fell to Pepperdine's Alex Sarkissian 6-1, 6-4 in the second round in Athens, Ga.
Sarkissian, ranked No. 28 nationally, played impressive aggressive tennis, battering serves and groundstrokes that almost always found the court to seize control of the match. While No. 29 Bogaerts picked up his game in the second set to get back in the match, Sarkissian broke late in the set and closed out the win on his third match point to earn a spot in the third round.
Bogaerts, a sophomore, ends his season with a team-leading 26-13 singles record. He is one of only three players in program history to reach the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship.
