Deacs Sweep Doubles on First Day of Fall Season
Sept. 16, 2011
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The first day of the fall season for the Wake Forest men's tennis team was a mixed bag as the Demon Deacons swept two doubles matches and rallied in their second singles matches of the day at the Tennessee Fall Invitational on Friday.
Doubles started the Day One schedule and Wake Forest's two teams picked up early victories. Adam Lee and Danny Kreyman teamed up to down Davidson's Conner Evins and Robert Lightbourn 8-3, and Amogh Prabhakar partnered Conner Sherwood in an 8-6 victory over Winthrop's Dylan Comerford and Yuta Hirokawa.
The first round of singles would not go as smoothly as all five Demon Deacons dropped their opening matches, with three of the losses coming against Tennessee opponents. However, all five Deacons rebounded to win their first consolation match.
Kreyman and Prabhakar topped players from Wright State, and Lee and Chad Brady beat opponents from Tennessee-Chattanooga. Sherwood posted a straight-set victory over Tennessee Tech's Ezequiel Gils.
The tournament rolls on tomorrow with a round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles. Fans interested in following the matches during the day can go to Tennessee's live blog of the tournament available on UTSports.com.
