Deacs Begin Play at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, OKLA. – The Wake Forest men’s tennis team began play at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Saturday (Sept. 30), with Yuval Solomon and Julian Zlobinsky taking part in the pre-qualifying draw.

Needing to win four matches to advance to the qualifying round of the tournament, Solomon opened his tournament run against Maik Steiner of Western Michigan. The two would battle to a first-set tiebreaker, with Solomon prevailing, 7-6(3). Solomon advanced to the second round of pre-qualifying with a 6-3 decision in the second set.

In the second round, Solomon faced Tulane’s Luis Erlenbusch. After taking the first set, 7-5, Solomon rebounded narrowly dropped a 7-5 decision in the second set to force a third set. The true freshman was unable to advance to the third round with a 6-2 defeat in the third set.

Zlobinsky faced Joe Tyler of Iowa in his first-round match, but was unable to move on in the tournament, falling 6-4, 6-1.

Once the pre-qualifying draw concludes on Sunday, two more Deacs will begin their run in the qualifying draw with Alan Gadjiev and Bar Botzer beginning their tournament runs. Three additional Demon Deacons, Petros Chrysochos, Skander Mansouri and Christian Seraphim, all earned berths into the main draw and will await the conclusion of the qualifying draw to begin play.
