Deacons Roll On First Day of WFU Invite

By Alex Botoman, Wake Forest Athletic Communications (@SIDeacons) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team put on an impressive performance on the first day of play at its home tournament, the WFU Fall Invite, going a combined 12-3 with three teams reaching doubles semifinals. In the A Doubles flight, the Demon Deacons' top doubles team of 17th-ranked David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar took down Jorge Azuero and Siim Tuus in the first round before topping NC State's Dave Thompson and Simon Norenius to reach the semifinals. Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee also reached the semifinals of A Doubles, defeating Edward Becker and Harry Kelleher of Longwood and Nelson Vick and Conner Daly of North Carolina. In C Doubles, Sam Bloom and Conner Sherwood defeated Liberty's Josiah Boda and Sergio Mourelo in the first round before taking down Davidson's Conner Evins and Ethan Kallick 8-6. The Demon Deacons were also strong in their first singles matches of the tournament. In the A1 flight, Prabhakar beat Elon's Robert Lindgren 7-6 (2), 6-1. In A2 Singles, Lee topped Jimmy Dougherty of UNCG 6-4, 6-4, while Jon Ho had the most dramatic match of the day for the Demon Deacons, outlasting Davidson's Joe Schaefer 6-3, 6-7 (11), 7-6 (3). Also in A2, No. 94 Kreyman scored a 6-3, 7-5 win over NC State's Rafael Paez. Playing in the B Singles flight, Bloom defeated Norfolk State's Dzmitry Zyhmantovich 6-2, 7-6 (4).
