Two Deacs Advance to ITA Regional Quarterfinals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team finished play at the ITA Carolina Regional Sunday, with two Demon Deacons reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament.
No. 36 Tripper Carleton took down South Carolina's Ivan Machado in the Round of 16 before falling to NC State's Dave Thomson in the quarterfinals. No. 68 Iain Atkinson took down Duke's Jared Pinsky in two tiebreaks before bowing out to No. 30 Jose Hernandez of North Carolina.
Sophomore Danny Kreyman came up just short of an upset of Hernandez in the previous round, falling 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6). No. 81 Jonathan Wolff was Wake Forest's fourth representative in the Round of 16 where he fell 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) to North Carolina's No. 85 Joey Burkhardt. Wake Forest had put more players in the Round of 16 than any other school.
The tournament was the Deacons' final event of the fall season. Wake Forest will open dual match play on Jan. 29 against Wisconsin in the ITA kickoff weekend in Lexington, Ky. The Deacs' first home match will come on Feb. 13 against VCU.
