WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The duo of Christian Seraphim and Ian Dempster won five consecutive matches in Dallas over the weekend to win the 2018 RBC Tennis Championships of Dallas Doubles Wildcard Tournament.

With the victory, the pair earn a berth into the main draw of the event, a USTA Pro Circuit Event on the Challenger Tour, which begins on Jan. 29.

Competing for the first time as teammates after Dempster joined the program earlier in January as a graduate transfer, the pairing entered the wildcard tournament as the No. 4 seed. After three consecutive victories, the duo faced the No. 2 seed duo of Tam Trinh and Nick Chappel. The Demon Deacon duo punched their ticket into the finals with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

In the finals it was an all-NCAA matchup as the Deacs faced the TCU tandem of Reese Stadler and Alastair Gray, who had defeated the No. 1 seed in the field in the semifinals. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Seraphim and Dempster fought back to take the second set, 6-3. The pairing would complete the comeback with a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker.

The duo will look to become the second team with current Wake Forest ties to win the event, as current assistant coach Chris Eaton won the doubles title in 2012.

Wake Forest begins its collegiate season on Tuesday, Jan. 23, with a home doubleheader against Coastal Carolina (3:30 p.m.) and Elon (7:30 p.m.).
