GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Borna Gojo and senior Skander Mansouri were recognized by the ACC on Tuesday (Feb. 20) as the league office announced its Players of the Week.

Gojo was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week while Gojo and Mansouri were the league’s Doubles Team of the Week. It is Gojo’s first-career Player of the Week accolade while Mansouri is recognized for the first time this season and sixth time in his career.

Gojo helped lead the Demon Deacons to their first ever national title at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, posting a 2-0 record in singles play at the No. 1 singles position. The sophomore from Split, Croatia entered the tournament ranked No. 100 nationally and picked up wins over the No. 11 and No. 33 players in the country, the second and third-best wins by ranking in Gojo’s career.

Gojo defeated 11th-ranked Bandon Holt of USC in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in the Demon Deacons’ quarterfinal match against the Trojans, setting the Deacs up with a semifinal appearance against Stanford. With the match tied at 3-all against the Cardinal in the semis, Gojo rallied from one set down to clinch the match for Wake Forest, 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-5(5) over No. 33 Tom Fawcett.

In Wake Forest’s two matches in which the Deacs won the doubles point, Gojo and Mansouri’s match served as the doubles clinching match. The duo defeated the pairing of Douglas and Davis of Washington in the opening round, 6-4, while upsetting the No. 32 duo of Fawcett and Geller of Stanford, 6-3, in the semifinals. The tandem also defeated the USC pairing of Jaede and Verboven en route to a 3-1 week in double competition.

Wake Forest has nearly a month of before returning to competition on Friday, March 16, on the road at Virginia Tech in the Deacs’ ACC opener.
