Pairings Announced for ACC Tennis Championships
April 16, 2012
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Pairings have been announced by the ACC conference office for the 2012 ACC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships, which begin Thursday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The Wake Forest men's tennis team has received the No. 10 seed and will open against 7th-seeded Clemson, while the women's tennis team enters its draw as the No. 12 seed and will face 5th-seeded Virginia.
The Demon Deacon women's team will play its match against the Cavaliers at 9 a.m., while the men's team will start at noon. If they win their first round matches and advance to the quarterfinals, they will play at the same times on Friday.
The men's team's match against Clemson is a rematch of the first round of last year's tournament where the Demon Deacons swept the Tigers 4-0. The two teams met last Friday in Winston-Salem with Clemson narrowly coming out on top by a 4-3 score. The Deacons are heading into the tournament on a bit of a roll, having won four of their last six matches. The winner of Thursday's match will face second-seeded North Carolina in the quarterfinals.
The Wake Forest women's tennis team will face a challenging first-round opponent in the Cavaliers, who defeated the Demon Deacons 6-1 in Winston-Salem in their only regular season meeting on April 1. The winner of Thursday's match will face fourth-seeded Clemson in the quarterfinals.
A championship-long ticket costs $14 for adults and $10 for seniors, students and youth. Single-day passes are available for $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students and youth. Children 8 & under are admitted free to all sessions. For more information and directions to Cary Tennis Park, visit the tournament homepage.
