Princeton, N.J. -  Wake Forest senior All-American Todd Paul and assistant coach Andrew Simpson earned regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Monday.

Paul was chosen as the Farnsworth/ITA Senior Player of the Year for the Mideast Region. Simpson was tabbed as the Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Both have been instrumental to Wake Forest's historic 2007 campaign. The Deacons have advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history and shattered the previous school record for single season wins (21).

"It's nice to be recognized as one of the best players in this year's class of seniors," Paul said. "I feel like I've been pretty consistent at one and that I've improved every match. I got off to a great start to beginning of season, had a little dip when we went outdoors, but have picked it up again and have found my game."

"I was surprised to have been chosen to win the award because they were so many great coaches nominated," Simpson said. "This is a testament to the great year our team has had. I share this award with not only the players, but also Coach Jeff Zinn and Coach Scott Briggs who are so great to work with."

Wake Forest travels to Athens, Ga., for the NCAA Championships.  The Deacons play Virginia in the round of 16 on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Tickets are available online at georgiadogs.com.
