NEW YORK - Incoming men's tennis freshman Noah Rubin continues his busy summer on Thursday night, playing an exhibition match against the world's top-ranked player, Novak Djokovic.
As part of the Johnny Mac Tennis Project benefit, the winner of Wimbledon juniors and the USTA Boys National Championship will take on the seven-time Grand Slam winner at Sportime Stadium on Randall's Island at 7:30 p.m.
The gala also features 2014 women's Wimbledon semifinalist Lucie Safarova taking on UNC's Jamie Loeb, and a celebrity doubles match featuring Djokovic, John McEnroe, New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and actor Edward Norton.
The benefit helps provide scholarships, coaching, transportation and other financial assistance to qualified young tennis players in the greater New York area, as well as introducing the sport to hundreds of new junior players each year.
Both Rubin and Djokovic will then stay in New York City to compete in the main draw of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. First round of singles play begins on Monday.
