Wake Forest Completes Day One of Hilton Garden Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest track and field teams completed day one of the Hilton Garden Invitational on Friday at the JDL Fast Track.

The men's distance medley relay team of Sebastian Fischbach, Brady Wilson, John Archie, and Jake Poyner finished in first place in the event. Also finishing in first place, Simon Holden crossed the finish line at 1:52.43 in the men's 800m to claim the top finish. Connor Crowley also had a strong performance setting a new PR in the 5000m (14.53.99) and finishes first among collegiate competitors in the event.

In addition, Ionata finished second among college competitors in the men's weight throw with a toss of 18.24m (59-10.25). Kyle Johnson also had a solid throw in the weight with a distance of 16.57m (54-4.5) for a seventh place finish. Eight total new personal records were set on the men's side. Alexander Krall set two personal records, one in the long jump and the other in the high jump.

For the women, it was in the mid-distance and distance events where the Deacons showed strong performances. Lara-Ann Schwede led the way with a second place finish in the 800m run crossing the finish line at 2:12.83.



Samantha Jones finished third in the 3000m run with a time of 9:47.04 to lead the way in distance events. She was followed by Kathleen Darling and Cat Allen who finished fourth and fifth respectively and each set new personal records. Ellie Abrahamson also set a PR and finished in the top-10 with an eighth place finish. In addition, Chandler Borton set a new PR in the women's 5000m and finished in fourth place.

The Deacons return to competition for day two of the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track tomorrow starting at 9 a.m. with the men's and women's shot put.
