BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest track and field teams finished up the first day of the Virginia Tech Elite Meet on Friday evening. Four competitors had top-10 finishes, while three of them set new personal records in the process.

Leading the way was Simon Holden, who finished in first with a personal best time in the mile run of 4:04.77. Holden has had a solid season thus far as he also set a school record in the 1000m on this same track at the Hokie Invitational.

In addition, Kyle Graves, who set the school record in the mile at the Hilton Garden Invitational, had a top-five finish crossing the finish line in fourth place. His record was recorded with a flat track time of 4:02.71 on the JDL Fast Track, which was then converted to a bank track time of 3:59.66. Like Holden, Sebastian Fischbach achieved a new personal record competing in his first mile run event.

In the field, Charlie Ionata also set a new personal best in the weight throw and earned a top-10 finish. His PR toss of 18.91m (62-0.5) was good enough for a ninth place finish. Alex Krall also grabbed a top-10 finish, tabbing a fourth place spot in the men's unseeded pole vault. He set a new personal record clearing a height of 4.71m (15-5.5).

For the women, Lara-Ann Schwede set a new personal record in the women's mile with a time of 4:53.17 and had a top-five finish crossing the finish line in fourth place.

Wake Forest returns to action tomorrow for day two at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet starting at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump and the pole vault.
