ATHENS, Ga. - The Wake Forest track and field squad wrapped up action at the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens over the weekend, adding one more NCAA Regional qualifier to the growing list of Demon Deacon competitors set for action in Tallahassee at the end of May.

Phillip Warsaw hit the mark with a 52.41 time in the 400m hurdles, running just under the regional bar of 52.51. Other Demon Deacons who've set regional marks this season include Michelle Loyd (400m hurdles), Carly Mauch (Javelin), Caroline Vaughn (100m hurdles), Anna Nosenko (5000m) and Kerry Major (100m).

Thomas Sensing just missed the regional discus mark of 169-07 with a 169-04 throw. The hurl was a new personal best for the Franklin, Tenn. native and was good for fourth place in the event. Sensing also posted a WFU season best in the hammer throw with a 142-10 mark.

Joel Fletcher posted his best sprint performances of the season on Saturday, running the 100m dash in 11.59 and the 200m dash in 23.12. Aaron Russell finished just under his season high in the 200m, placing 15th with a 22.70 run

Alan Lunkenheimer and Jon Reid finished back-to-back in the 400m run, with Lunkenheimer placing eighth on a 48.07 performance and Reid taking ninth with a 48.19 run.

The 4x400m relay team, composed of Aaron Russell, Reid, Lunkenheimer and Warsaw, topped its previous time of 3:35.79 by 21 seconds, placing fifth with a 3:14.39 finish.

 

 

In his first 1500m contest of the outdoor season, Marcus Dillon clocked a 4:07.04 mark, taking 11th place.

Oderah Nwaeze had his best long jump performance of the outdoor portion of the schedule, hitting a 22-09.75 mark, bettering his former top mark of 22-00.25 set at the Wake Forest Open at the start of the season.

Nicole Castronuova tied her personal record in the 200m dash with a 24.20 mark, taking seventh place finish. Katelyn Wohlford put up personal season-high times in the 200m and 400m races with 26.00 and 59.97 finishes.

Michelle Loyd ran her first 400m race of the outdoor season, placing sixth with a 56.54 mark. The time was the second highest for the Demon Deacons this season; Melissa Council holds the top mark of 55.37, set at the Wake Forest Open.

In the mid distance races, Molly Fresher led the WFU pack in the 800m run, finishing in 2:20.69. Freshman Chelsea Bolton was the team leader in the 1500m race, clocking a personal season-high team of 4:47.07

Next week the Demon Deacons are headed back to the Peachtree State for the ACC Outdoor Tournament in Atlanta, Ga.
