ATLANTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest track and field team completed its final tune-up before the NCAA Regionals this weekend at the rain-soaked Georgia Tech Invitational.

Senior Michael Bingham and junior Kim Vos each took advantage of the final opportunity to qualify for the regionals.

Bingham, the 400-meter indoor National Champion, won the 200-meter dash Saturday with a personal-best time of 20.75. He bettered her previous personal-best of 20.86.

The Burlington, N.C., native has also qualified for the regionals in the 400-meter dash and holds the top-time in the region at 45.32.

Vos dodged the rain drops to run a personal-best 2:09.56 in a very fast 800-meter run. She finished 17th in the field as 18 different runners eclipsed the regional qualifying time. She also topped her previous personal-best of 2:12.65, which she ran at the Wake Forest Open back in March.

Dina Nosenko finished 21st in the event with a time of 2:10.91 which was also a personal-best.

Also competing in the men's 200 with Bingham were juniors Jon Reid and Tyler Dodds. Reid crossed the line in a time of 21.76 to take 16th while Dodds followed him in 17th at 21.79.

Saturday's slate of events were delayed at the start of the day for almost three hours as severe weather rolled through the Atlanta area.

Once the competition got underway, juniors Caroline Vaughn and Alex Gove would run a solid 400-meter hurdle race. Vaughn crossed the third with a personal-best time of 58.46, bettering her previous NCAA regional time of 58.72. Gove turned in a time of 1:01.54 to finish 15th.

Vaughn ran a school-record 13.39 in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles Friday night but chose not to compete in the finals Saturday after the rain delay.

In the women's 400-meter dash, senior Melissa Council finished sixth in a time of 53.74 while Katelyn Wohlford crossed the line in 58.71. Council's time was an NCAA regional qualifying time.

On the men's side, freshman Aaron Payne jumped a personal-best 6-06.75 in the high jump to finish ninth.

On Friday night junior Thomas Sensing finished second in the javelin and then turned in a personal-best mark of 56-06.00 (17.22m) in the shot put to qualify him for the NCAA Regionals. His previous season-best of 54-04.00 came at the Clemson Classic last weekend.

Anna Nosenko also ran a personal-best in the 1,500-meter run Friday evening, finishing as the top collegiate runner with an NCAA Regional time of 4:22.63.

The Demon Deacons have a total of 14 athletes that have reached an NCAA Regional qualifying mark this spring. Those athletes will train the next two weeks in preparation for the NCAA East Regionals hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro on May 29-30.
