Deacs Set to Compete at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Wake Forest track and field resumes action on Saturday in the Wake Forest Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Indoor Track Complex following winter break.
"We are eager to begin the season and get an idea of where our athletes are in terms of fitness following the winter break," said John Millar, director of track and field. "This will be a valuable opportunity for our coaching staff to evaluate their individual athletes in a competitive situation. Having the meet here in Winston-Salem is exciting as our athletes will be able to compete in front of family and friends. This will hopefully allow us to begin to develop a base of support within the local running community."
The Demon Deacons last competed in the JDL College Kick-Off Classic on December 1 and were led by Myesha Barr in the 300-meter dash who finished ninth and Thomas Bojanowski who took first in the 1000-meter run.
Nate Wooten and K.C. Barrett will kick off the field events on Saturday with the weight throw followed by Michael Thomas, Erin Brooks and Erika Martin in the long jump while Steve Michaelsen is scheduled to throw the shot put along with fellow freshman Jessie Merckle. Sydney White, Anna Tessiatore and Sara Small are set to compete in the pole vault.
Distance runners Aubrey Waggoner, Brianna Dekine, Kendal Knous, Ashley Brubaker, Alexander Rose, Thomas, Ryan Horgan and Anthony Marois are slated for the distance medley relay. Caitlin Hartnett, Natalie Sukramani, Kathleen Darling, Lindsay Kerr, Connor Crowley, Jake Graham, Tommy Ross, James Allen McCalister III and Evan Little will also compete in distance events on Saturday.
Golden who registered a personal best 8.76 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles last season, is set to run the event on Saturday with Erika Martin. Malcolm Nunley will run the event on the men's side. Mytoia Gathings who set the school record in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 7.71 will compete in the event with Anneve Waithe this weekend.
Bojanowski, Daniel Harrison, and Nunley are apart the first 4x400-meter relay team for the men while Kyle Eager, Beck Miller, Michael McEnamy and Thomas make up the other.
Wake Forest is back in action next Friday at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. Events begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and continue again on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
