Brent LaRue Named ACC Men's Track Performer Of The Week
April 6, 2010
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest senior standout Brent LaRue has been named the ACC Men's Track Performer of the Week for his efforts at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic last weekend.
The Kernersville, NC, native had a great meet, finishing in the top-3 in all three of his events. He started the day by winning the men's 400m hurdles in a school-record time of 50.60. That shaved a full second off of Phillip Warsaw's mark from 2007 and it was nearly a second and a half faster than his previous personal-best. LaRue's time is the fourth-fastest time in the East Region and the best time in the ACC this season.
LaRue then competed in the long jump where he posted a personal-best mark of 23-05.25 (7.14m) and finished third overall. That mark was six inches further than his previous-best outdoor best.
Finally, the All-American wrapped-up the day by helping the Demon Deacon 4x400m relay team finish second with a season-best time of 3:08.48. That time is also third-best among ACC teams this year.
This is LaRue's second ACC weekly honors this season. He also took home the award during the indoor season on Jan. 8, after setting the school-record in the indoor pole vault at the UNC Invitational. Last year, he was also named the ACC Indoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year.
LaRue and the rest of the Deacons have one final tune-up this weekend at the Spec Towns Open in Athens, Ga., before heading to Clemson, SC, for the ACC Outdoor Championships on April 15-17.
