2014 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships Coming to Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Winston-Salem has been selected to host the 2014 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships, an event expected to bring an estimated 2,100 athletes, coaches, and support staff to the city.
The event will run from July 15-20, 2014 on the track & field facilities at Wake Forest University.
This will mark the first time that Winston-Salem plays host to the event, which is expected to generate approximately $600,000 during the six-day period.
The event features athletes over the age of 30 in track events ranging from the 100 meters to the 10,000 meters, and field events such as jumps, shot put, javelin, and discus.
"We are excited that the 2014 Masters Track and Field Championships will be held in Winston-Salem and at Wake Forest University," said Wake Forest Director of Track & Field John Millar. "Hosting such a great event will certainly elevate the level of interest in our sport throughout the community as well as showcase our outstanding facilities and beautiful campus to participants and spectators from all over the country."
The USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships mark the 24th sporting event booked by Winston-Salem this year.
The 2011 Championships were held in Berea, Ohio, while the 2012 competition will take place in Lisle, Ill., from Aug. 2-5.
