March 16-17, 2012 Kentner Stadium Entry-
Entries for this meet will be done on-line using Direct Athletics through our
timing company, Flash Results. Go to
their web site- www.flashresults.com
and follow the instructions listed under the Wake Forest Open icon. Entry will open up approximately 3 weeks
prior to the meet. Unattached entries should be e-mailed to Scott Hall- hallsa@wfu.edu. If approved, you will be entered in the
meet. Unattached athletes, who enter but
do not show, will be barred from future meets.
High School athletes will not be allowed to compete. Entries will be open until 11pm ET on
Tuesday, March 13th. We ask that you
make final declarations by Wednesday, March 14th at 5pm ET. Each school will have
unlimited entries for all running events except relays (limited to an A and B
team) but we will limit all
field events to the top 40 verified
entrants. We will use TFRR for verification
of 2010-11 Indoor/Outdoor marks. Teams
with any extenuating circumstances should contact Scott Hall directly at (hallsa@wfu.edu) to provide verification. Entries without the accompanying verified
performance list will not be considered. Every attempt will be made to post the top 40 accepted marks on the
Flash Results website following final declarations. A list of suggested entry standards is
enclosed. This should help you with
entry decisions for field event athletes and travel roster decisions prior to your
departure on Thursday. Entry Fee-
Checks for entry fees (payable to Wake Forest Track and Field) must be mailed
prior to March 10th. You may
send them to- John Millar, Wake Forest Track and Field Open, Manchester
Athletic Center, 1834 Wake Forest Rd., Facility-
Kentner Stadium which hosted the record setting 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference
Championships (28 ACC and one collegiate record), features an 8 lane Beynon
1000 urethane track. The track and field design allows for conducting events
with the prevailing winds in all races up to and including 400m and all jumping
and throwing events. The adjacent long throws
complex features multiple throw venues and can accommodate all of the throw
events in one location. This year, we
will be utilizing a laser measurement system for all long throws to speed up
the competition. The venue historically
produces numerous qualifiers for USATF and NCAA Championships. Concession stands are located on the stadium
concourse and will be open during the meet. Designated warm-up areas are
located proximal to the track and provide convenient access to the
facility. Secured team tents are allowed
only in the designated areas
on the grass by the upper eight tennis courts east of the stadium. No tents will be allowed in the
stadium or on the patio level of the Packet Pick-up – Packets that have been paid for may be picked up in
the express lane at the check-in tent located at the northeast entrance to
Kentner Stadium. Team entry fees that
have not been paid previously by mail must be taken care of immediately prior
to entry by your team into the stadium. Unattached
athletes must pay their entry fees and each athlete will be given a number
(wristband) which must be shown to the officials upon check-in for a field
event or the clerking tent for a running event. These numbers must be worn by
unattached athletes while they are competing. . The packet pick-up tent will be
open from 8:30am to 5pm on Friday. If
you wish to pick up your packet at another time, please contact Scott Hall at
(336) 416-2867. Warm-Up Areas- Warm-up will be confined to the roped off
football turf practice field as well as any portion of the cross country
trails. Warm-ups for all other events
will be in the designated area of the football turf practice field when
football practice concludes at 12pm. Please
stay off the grass football practice fields.
Athletes in running events will check-in at the clerking tent in the SE
corner of the track. The check-in tent
is only accessible from the warm-up area.
Field event athletes are requested to do general warm-up activities within
designated warm-up areas and do specific event warm-up at the competition site.
Spikes may not be worn in the
general warm-up area and no team tents are allowed in this area. Once final clerking has been done
athletes will be allowed to use the track for final strides, starts etc. Meet Conduct-
The meet will be conducted under NCAA rules and will be non-scoring. Implement
weigh-ins will be done at the throws complex starting 75 minutes prior to the
start of the event with the exception of the shot put which will be done in the
northwest corner of Kentner Stadium by the shot put venue. Shots should be labeled with tape and left in
the bin near the stadium shot put facility starting three hours before and
ending 45minutes prior to competition.
The shots will be certified and brought to the ring for competition. Field event check-in will be at the event site
starting one hour prior to the event.
There will be three flights starting with lowest to best performances in
all events except vertical jumps. All
legal throw and jump attempts will be measured.
Top nine athletes will advance to the final. In the vertical jumps (High Jump and Pole
Vault) athletes will be divided into A (approx. top
20) or B flights (approx. bottom 20) and will compete at the time designated
for each section on the time schedule. We will make every attempt to place
athletes from the same team with similar entry marks in the same section. Starting heights will be determined based on
entries. Athletes in running events
will need to check in at the clerking area (located in the SE corner of the
track) at least 60 minutes prior to their event indicating that they will
compete in their event; 45 minutes prior to the event, the final seeding and heats
will be determined. This will eliminate
open lanes, make for a better competition, and keep the meet on schedule. Decathlon/Heptathlon Shot Put- A special
section of the shot put will be conducted for multi-event athletes will be held
at 9:30am on Saturday. It will be open
format-men and women together; no minimum entry standard . NAIA/NCAA III athletes that may not make the
open shot put field should be entered in this event. Awards-
T-shirts will be awarded to the collegiate winners of each event
including all four members of winning relay teams and winners of both A and B
sections in vertical jumps. Results-
The results will be posted upon the conclusion of each event on the wall behind
the press box and will be on line at www.flashresults.com under Wake Forest
Open heading. Sports Medicine- Certified athletic trainers will be available at the meet for injury
evaluation, ice and hydration purposes.
If you have specific training needs, please contact Anne Bradley, Wake
Forest Track and Field Trainer- bradleam@wfu.edu
or 336-758-4592 to make arrangements ahead of time. Parking-
Parking for such a large event is always difficult due to the size of our
campus. We appreciate your cooperation
with our parking system during your stay. After dropping off at the track, we
ask team vans and cars (with a parking pass) to park in the W Lot (Law School) just
north of Kentner Stadium. If additional
parking is needed, the lot at the Spry Soccer Stadium will serve as an overflow
lot. Wake Forest is on Spring Break this year during the meet which will make
the parking situation easier. A limited
number of parking passes per team will be distributed at packet
pick-up at the check-in tent. Team buses must drop off your team and
then will need to park at the BB&T Field (football stadium) lot. Please communicate with your bus company to
allow for an effective plan for drop-off, pick-up and shuttling team members
throughout the weekend. Suggested
