WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The men's cross country team opened its season with a second-place finish at the Wake Forest Relays on Friday evening at the Cross Country Trail. The Deacons totaled 18 points, while High Point finished in first with six points and UNC Greensboro had 34 points for third place.

Howard Graves finished the two 3.5-kilometer legs in 22:58, while fellow freshman Garret Drogosch completed the 7K in 22:59. Their times were fifth and sixth overall, respectively.

Graves and redshirt senior Jeremy Fisico were the first Wake Forest team to cross the finish with a time of 46:40. Drogosch and freshman Tom Finneran combined for a total time of 46:43, finishing as the seventh overall pair.

"Our young guys had their eyes up and they were determined. They know they're redirecting this Wake Forest men's cross country program so they're trying to live up to the teams before them. We had a freshman, Garret [Drogosch], who just threw himself into the mix and he just didn't want to limit himself," head coach Annie Bennett said.

"It was also good to see Jeremy Fisico and Keaton Morgan after missing more than a year," said Bennett.

Wake Forest has next weekend off and will return to regular-season action with two meets scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18. Some team members will travel to Blacksburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational at 6 p.m. ET, while others will compete in the Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn., beginning at 8:30 a.m.
