Entering her third year with the Demon Deacon coaching staff is Stephanie Lawrence Yelton, whose responsibilities include scheduling, supervising the academic progress of players, scouting opponents, recruiting, and working with the post players. Lawrence Yelton played at the University of North Carolina from 1991-95, where she was a member of the Tar Heels' 1994 national championship squad. She was a four-year letterwinner at UNC, starting 87 of her 128 career games. A 6-1 guard/forward, Lawrence Yelton averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game over her career. She graduated as UNC's all-time leader in every three-point shooting category, including three-pointers made in a game (7), season (69), and career (227), and career three-point percentage (.369). She also ranked eighth on the Tar Heels' all-time assists list with 278. She was UNC's team captain and was named the squad's top defensive player as a senior. Lawrence Yelton graduated from UNC in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. She was a student assistant coach for the Tar Heels in 1995-96 while finishing her degree, then played a summer of professional basketball with the Waitakere Rangers of Arnott's Women's Basketball League in New Zealand. She returned to coaching in 1996-97 at Wingate University, where she served as head assistant coach. There she was responsible for scouting, evaluation of prospective student-athletes, and coordination of the strength and conditioning programs. She also served as Wingate's assistant cross country coach. Lawrence Yelton has participated in numerous camps throughout her career, including serving as assistant coordinator at the Gatorade/New York Knicks Youth Basketball Camps. She is married to Jack Yelton, an assistant football coach at Catawba College. |
