WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After trailing by double-digits through the opening 15 minutes of the first half, Wake Forest out-scored Boston College 15-0 before halftime to take the lead and help push the Demon Deacons to a 52-48 win on Thursday night.

The victory was Wake Forest's (13-3, 1-2) first ever win over Boston College (13-4, 2-1) since the series began in 2006. Wake Forest remains undefeated this season at the Joel Coliseum, posting ten wins from the Winston-Salem site.

Wake Forest sophomore Brittany Waters was the game's high scorer with 18 points, followed by seniors Corinne Groves and Alex Tchangoue who posted 14. Boston College was led by Mickel Picco who picked up 13 points, noticeably shy of her 17.9 season average. Stephanie Murphy and Carolyn Swords each posted the game-high 13 boards.

Tchangoue posted her third double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 14 points. In the first half Tchangoue netted her 1,000th career point, becoming the 17th member of WFU's 1,000 Point Club.

"It's a big win for us. It really helps just to get a little confidence back," WFU head coach Mike Petersen said.

"On the road we played three great teams and did not play well enough to win. At some point you have to stop your losing streak and we did that tonight. Now we can come back to practice with our heads up and ready to go."

Wake Forest opened the game with an 11-0 deficit by the 13:34 mark. By 5:57 Boston College held a 20-6 advantage.

And then the Eagles just stopped scoring.

BC crumbled at Wake's defensive pressure and shot 0-11 in the final five minutes, allowing Wake Forest to finish the half with a 15-0 run. With 57 seconds left before the halftime break Alex Tchangoue stepped up to hit a huge 3-pointer that gave the Deacons their first lead of the game, 21-20. BC would not be able to counter and Wake Forest entered intermission with a slight advantage.

The lead changed ten times in the second half. Wake Forest built a nine point lead by 17:01 and looked poised to run away with the game. But BC's Brittany Johnson hit a three-pointer to slow Wake Forest's momentum. The Eagles took the lead at 14:04 when sharp shooter Mickel Picco hit a three to put BC up 32-33.

BC held its final lead at 3:49 at 46-45. Camille Collier countered with a three point basket and Corinne Groves picked up a defensive rebound on the following Eagle possession.

With 27 seconds to play, Wake Forest was clinging to a one-possession lead. Alex Tchangoue netted a jumper in the paint, forcing Carolyn Swords to draw her fifth foul along the way. Tchangoue netted the free throw shot and Wake Forest held a 51-46 lead.

Picco added a final BC three-point basket with 11 seconds. Tchangoue was fouled and posted a final free throw to set the score at 52-48.

Wake Forest will return to conference play at the Joel Coliseum on Sunday, January 18 to host Clemson at 3 p.m.
