GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest women’s basketball’s Elisa Penna was tabbed as the ACC’s Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Feb. 19).

The junior from Bergamo, Italy is the first Demon Deacon to win ACC Player of the Week since Amber Campbell on Feb. 15, 2016.

Over the course of two games, Penna scored 54 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field (20-36) and 64.7 percent (11-17) from long range. The week was highlighted by a career-high 34 points on Sunday, Feb. 18 at No. 25 NC State.

The 34 points is tied for the eighth-most by an ACC player this season. It was the highest scoring game by a Demon Deacon since Dearica Hamby scored 36 against Boston College on Feb. 12, 2015.

Penna added nine three-pointers, which tied the program record for most made three-pointers in a game and tied for the most made by any ACC player in a game this season.

On Thursday, Feb. 15, Penna led the Deacs with 20 points in the team’s 73-56 win over Virginia Tech. She tied her season high with four steals against the Hokies.

Penna now needs just 10 points to reach 1,000 for her career, joining teammates Ariel Stephenson and Amber Campbell in accomplishing the feat.

Wake Forest concludes its road schedule this Thursday, Feb. 22 against Clemson at 7 p.m.
