WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will continue postseason play on Sunday, March 22, hosting the winner of Georgetown/Winthrop in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. The game time has been set at 5 p.m. Sunday will mark Wake Forest's third postseason appearance past the ACC Tournament since the NCAA Tournament was established in 1982. In 1988 former head coach Joe Sanchez guided the Deacons through two games in the NCAA Tournament, and in his first year of coaching the Deacons Mike Petersen led Wake Forest to the third round of the WNIT in 2005. The 2008-09 season has been one of the most successful seasons in WFU history. The Demon Deacons are 19-11, and a win in the tournament would push the team to the 20-win mark for the first time since the 1987-88 season. Associate Head Coach Natasha Adair and Assistant Coach Bob Clark both worked as assistants at Georgetown from 1998-2004. The Deacons are 1-0 all-time against the Hoyas, last facing the team at the Big 4 Classic in Greensboro, N.C. in 1995. Wake Forest leads the Winthrop series 3-1, last posting a victory in Winston-Salem on December 17, 2006.
Individual tickets for the Second Round WNIT game are $7 for adults and $4 for students. A Family Four Pack is also available for $16 which includes 2 adult and 2 youth tickets. Tickets can be ordered online. For group orders (10+) please call the Wake Forest Ticket Office at 1.888.758.DEAC.
