April 10, 2012
The Wake Forest women's basketball team met Tuesday evening in Deacon Tower for a final team dinner and to hand out the yearly awards.
Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Counseling Jane Caldwell handed-out the Academic Award, Director of Athletic Performance Greg Brittenham handed-out the Strength Award and head coach Mike Petersen passed-out the Hustle Award.
Graduate student Camille Collier took home the Academic Award. She graduated last May with a degree in sociology and received the prestigious NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Programs' Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics. This season, she completed her master's degree in education in just one academic year.
Sophomore Erin Hall received the Strength Award, which went to the player who worked the hardest in the weight room and during conditioning sessions. According to Brittenham, Hall was one of the first players to show up to every workout and also did extra core training after each workout. Hall played in 26 games this season and averaged 2.6 points per game. She made a total of 17 three pointers.
The final award of the night, the Hustle Award, went to senior Secily Ray. The hustle Award went to the player that played and worked the hardest on the court. Ray started all 34 games and led the team with 7.4 rebounds per game. In the final 13 games of the season, Ray averaged nearly 12 points and nine rebounds per contest. She finished her career with over 1,000 points and 800 rebounds, becoming just the third player in school history to reach those milestones.
