Women's Hoops Heads To Illinois For ACC/Big Ten Challenge
May 22, 2012
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will travel to Illinois as part of the sixth-annual Women's ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game is set for Thursday, Nov. 29. This will be Wake Forest's fifth appearance in the challenge. The Deacs hold a 2-2 mark and are coming off an 82-65 victory over Minnesota this past season in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest and Illinois will be squaring-off for the second time in the challenge. The two teams met in 2009 in Winston-Salem. Wake led by as many as 17 points early in the second half but the Illini then caught fire from the floor, shooting almost 70 percent, and coming all the way back for a 65-50 victory. The Deacons other victory in the challenge came in 2007 when they traveled to Northwestern and knocked-off the Wildcats 60-45. Wake is 5-8 all-time against teams from the Big Ten. The ACC/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge matches teams from each conference in head-to-head competition, traditionally on the first Wednesday and Thursday after Thanksgiving following the Big Ten/ACC Men's Basketball Challenge. The ACC won the first four Challenge titles, while last season, the two conferences each won six games for the first tie in Challenge history. The inaugural Challenge in 2007 saw the ACC collect its all-time high of eight victories. Game times, as well as television and broadband coverage, will be announced at a later date. 2012 CHALLENGE SCHEDULE
