WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will open the regular season Tuesday evening against Monmouth at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Deacons come into the 2011-12 season with high hopes as they return four of five starters and over 80 percent of the scoring from last year's squad. Wake took care of both Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum in its two exhibition games and is ready for the real season.

Wake has won 10 of its last 11 season-openers since 2000. The only loss in that stretch was a 75-53 defeat to Indiana in 2005. Last season, the Deacs rolled past NC Central 111-47 in the season-opener.

This will be the second game of the season for Monmouth as it lost to UMBC Sunday evening, 68-64. Like Wake, the Hawks return four of starters from last season but will be without Preseason All-NEC selection Alysha Womack, who will miss the game with a knee injury.

Wake Forest and Monmouth will be meeting for the first time on the hardwood. In all, this will be just the third Northeast Conference opponent for the Demon Deacons. Wake defeated Farleigh Dickenson in 1999 and Quinnipiac in 2001.

This game, and every Wake Forest women's basketball home game, will be streamed live on WakeForestSports.com. The remaining road games also be available as audio-only broadcasts.
