Restivo Named Head Coach at Virginia Wesleyan

Christina Restivo served as a Wake Forest field hockey assistant for six seasons

Christina Restivo begins her sixth season as assistant coach for the Wake Forest field hockey team, where she works primarily with the goalkeepers.

In 2007, Restivo helped Crystal Duffield make the transition from a top-reserve player to the team's starting goalkeeper. Duffield played in 19 games and recorded 65 saves, more than double her amassed saves from her freshman and sophomore seasons (29). Duffield continued to improve in 2008, becoming the team's reliable force in the net during the Deacons' ninth consecutive trip the NCAA Final Four.

Restivo joined the WFU coaching staff following her collegiate career at Maryland where she served as a goalkeeper on the 2005 and 2006 National Champion teams.

In addition to her coaching experience at Wake Forest, Restivo is also a Level 2 Certified USFHA Coach.

"Christina adds an encouraging attitude and another dimension to field hockey and we're happy to have her on the staff," said head coach Jennifer Averill.

Restivo appeared in 39 games for the Terrapins and started 24 of them. The Parkton, Md. native recorded 52 saves and six shutouts, including four her sophomore year.

In 2006, Restivo specialized in penalty strokes which became indispensable during the national semifinal game versus seventh-ranked Connecticut as she stopped two penalty strokes against the Huskies to help advance Maryland to the title game and earned a spot on the All-NCAA tournament team.

Restivo earned her degree in community and public health. She currently resides in Winston-Salem and is pursuing a masters degree at Wake Forest.
