Final Stats

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The second-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team improved to 3-1 for the season with a 3-1 road victory over 12th-ranked James Madison on Sunday. The JMU Dukes are 2-1 for the season.

The Deacons scored all three of their goals in the first half. Hilary Moore opened up scoring for the match in the 6th minute when she landed a shot from the left baseline. Freshman Lizzie Rae put Wake up 2-0 with her third goal of the season, taking a pass from Kim Romansky. Less than two minutes later Melissa Martin converted in the 27th minute, taking an assist from Lauren Greenwald.

JMU's Meghan Bain scored the only goal of the game for the dukes, slipping it in the top right corner of the cage after taking a pass from Dolores de Rooij five minutes into the second half.

Wake Forest out-shot the Dukes 21-9 with nine shots on goal. Wake Forest Kaitlin Ruhf goal keeper came into relieve Julia Young five minutes into the match and recorded three saves.

On September 12 Wake Forest will kick-off conference season with Duke in Durham at 1 p.m.
