BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The fifth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team capped a tough weekend with another 2-1 victory - this time defeating Indiana Sunday afternoon. Yesterday, the Demon Deacons topped No. 12 Ohio by the same score.

Wake improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Hoosiers dropped to 4-3 on the season.

The game was well-matched in the first 35 minutes as Wake Forest took four shots and Indiana took two, but both defenses remained tight as neither team could find the back of the net.

After almost another 10 minutes of a scoreless tie in the second half, the Deacs struck first at the 44:41 mark when Chelsea Cipriani scored off of a pass from Michelle Kasold. The home team responded less than two minutes later when Danitra Castro scored off an Indiana penalty corner to tie the game at 1-all.

Wake Forest pressured the opponent defense and after a Minou Gimbrere shot was saved, Regina Shannon found the ball and tapped it in for the game-winner at the 48:17 mark.

The Deacs continued to dominate the second half and held the Hoosiers to only one shot. Gimbrere would took two more shots, while Melissa Martin also took a shot on goal as the second period came to an end.

The Deacs out-shot the Hoosiers 10-3 in the game.

Wake Forest is back in action next weekend when it faces defending national champion Maryland for an ACC and NCAA title rematch on Sept. 22 in College Park.
