Winston-Salem, NC - Freshman Christine Suggs scored both goals for the top-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team, to lead the Demon Deacons past No. 6 Michigan State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Kentner Stadium.

The win keeps the three-time national champions undefeated, 6-0, and keeps their 57-game non-conference winning streak alive. Michigan State, who defeated Kent State, 2-1, on Saturday, falls to 7-2 on the season.

Wake Forest took control early in the game earning a penalty corner just 1:30 in. Holding onto possession, Wake found several opportunities to fire shots, including one by Suggs that made it behind the keeper before Amy Schneider knocked it out of the way for a defensive save. Finally reaching the back of the cage at the 15 minute mark, Suggs brought the ball into the circle after beating a few Spartan defenders at the 25. Taking a clean shot from the top, the ball went right past the keepers legs and into the goal.

Scoring again with just four minutes remaining in the first half, senior Ariel Meyers passed the ball to Suggs, who cleanly tipped it in at the corner of the cage. The two goals for Suggs are her third and fourth of the season. The assist from Meyers is her first of the year.

The two teams kept the game scoreless for the entire second half, but the Demon Deacons held control for the majority, firing 10 shots to the Spartans two. Sophomore Chelsea Cipriani, who made her second career start, led the team with six shots. Over the course of the match, Wake took 18 shots to Michigan State's six.

Wake Forest goalkeeper Kristina Gagliardi earned her second shutout in as many games and finished the day with two saves. Michigan State's Christina Kirkaldy had seven.

The Demon Deacons will next travel to No. 2 Maryland, Saturday, Sept. 24. Game time against the Terps is set for 1 p.m.
