BOONE, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team scored five second-half goals to roll past Appalachian State 7-1 on Friday. Madi Julius, Krysta Wangerin and Jule Grashoff each scored two goals.

The seventh-ranked Demon Deacons extended their win streak to four games and improved to 9-2 overall. Appalachian State dropped to 2-8 on the season. Wake Forest has now won 24-straight games against the Mountaineers.

Wangerin scored both first half goals for the Demon Deacons. She gave Wake Forest a 1-0 lead just 1:27 in to the game. Just seven minutes later she scored her second of the game, assisted by Jess Newak, on a penalty corner.

The Mountaineers cut the lead in half with a goal 13:07 in to the first half. Jordan Van Cleave scored, assisted by Savanna Sheridan on one of Appalachian State's four penalty corners.

Grashoff opened the second half scoring with a goal 3:56 in to the period. She scored on a penalty corner assisted by Emily Conroe and Megan Anderson. Just three minutes later Wangerin crossed the ball in to Julius who scored to push Wake Forest's lead to 4-1.

Julius scored her second of the game at 46:30, this time assisted by Newak. Newak added a goal of her own in the 56th minute and Grashoff scored her second of the game in the 57th minute to make the final score 7-1.

Valerie Dahmen made two saves in 53:39 minutes of action. Cat O'Connor played the final 16:21 in goal but did not face a shot. Wake Forest had a 21-6 advantage in shots and 8-4 in penalty corners.

Wake Forest returns home on Sunday at 1 p.m. to face No. 11 Boston College at Kentner Stadium.
