No. 3 Wake Forest Downs Pacific 5-1

STANFORD, Calif. - The Wake Forest field hockey team put away the Pacific Tigers, 5-1, on Sunday. With the win, the third-ranked Demon Deacons moved to 9-4 on the season, while the Tigers dropped to 3-10.
The Deacs took a 3-0 lead 15 minutes into the game with freshman Emily Cummings scoring the first goal at the 6:46 mark. Minou Gimbrere sent the ball towards the goal from just outside the circle and found Melissa Martin right in front of the net as she made it 2-0. Just over a minute later Michelle Kasold found a loose ball and knocked in her first of two goals at the 14:59 mark.
Pacific notched its lone goal of the game with just under five minutes remaining in the first half when Rachel Taylor found the back of the net as the first half ended 3-1.
Wake continued its offensive pressure and knocked in two more goals within a 90-second span. Kasold snuck past the Tiger defense and rocketed a shot past Pacific goalkeeper Lauren Woods to put the Deacs up 4-1 at the 47:14 mark and Regina Shannon recorded Wake's final goal of the game at the 48:44 mark. Aileen Davis was credited with the assist.
Wake Forest out-shot the Tigers 27-11 and also held the advantage on corner penalties, 8-5.
Crystal Duffield played the first half and notched three saves, while freshman Alex Mann shutout the Tigers in the second half, recording four saves. Shannon led the team with seven shots, while Kasold and Gimbrere totaled five shots each.
Wake Forest concludes its California trip on Monday when it squares off against Stanford.
