Cipriani Scores First Career Hat Trick
Oct. 15, 2006
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Chelsea Cipriani became the third player this season to score a hat trick leading the No. 2 Wake Forest field hockey team past Dartmouth, 8-0, Sunday afternoon in Kentner Stadium.
In addition to Cipriani's three goals, the Demon Deacons had four other players score. Sophomore Christine Suggs had two goals in the win, while Minou Gimbrere, Jamie Whitten and Lauren Love each added one. Tracey Scott and Michelle Kasold added to the stats with two assists each.
Gimbrere put the Deacs out to an early lead, scoring the first goal just under two minutes into the game. A minute and a half later Suggs scored her first goal of the day and then upped it once again at the 20:48 mark. As the half wound down, Cipriani gave the Deacs a 4-0 halftime lead with her first goal of the day off a short pass from Scott.
Coming out of the break, the Deacs drew back-to-back penalty corners less than a minute apart and Cipriani and Whitten converted each of them into goals, respectively. Cipriani scored again at the 45:35 mark with an unassisted shot from the far corner of the goal. Love rounded out the Deacs scoring in the 66th minute with a diving shot off a cross from Hilary Moore.
The Demon Deacon defense kept the Big Green out of their territory, only allowing them three shots on the day and no penalty corners. Offensively, Wake Forest took 34 shots and had eight corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Crystal Duffield picked up the win off two saves, while Ashley Heist had 15 saves in 58 minutes of action.
Wake Forest returns to action on Friday, Oct. 20 against Appalachian State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
