No. 2 Wake Forest Field Hockey Travels To ACC/Big Ten Challenge

WINTSON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team will open up its season with the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge, hosted by North Carolina. The Demon Deacons will first face Iowa on Saturday, Aug. 26 and Michigan on Sunday, Aug. 27. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m.
Wake Forest has opened its season for the past five years at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and enters the tournament with an 8-2 overall record. In 2005, the Demon Deacons faced six Big Ten opponents and won all of the games by a margin of 22-3. After the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this weekend, Wake Forest will face two more opponents from the Big Ten in Ohio State and Michigan State.
The Demon Deacons enter the 2006 season after a strong showing last year. Wake Forest closed the 2005 season with its sixth consecutive NCAA semifinal appearance, the first undefeated regular season and its third ACC regular season championship in the last four years. In addition, the Deacs had three All Americans, six All Region, four All ACC selections, the ACC Coach of the Year and the ACC Rookie of the Year.
