Winston-Salem, NC - The top-ranked Demon Deacon field hockey team hosts the Davidson Wildcats at Kentner Stadium on Wednesday evening. Game time is set for 7:00 pm. The Deacons head into the match 4-0, shutting-out their last two opponents. Davidson enters the contest 0-1, after dropping it's season opener to Miami University, 2-0. Wake Forest currently holds a 12 game winning streak against the Wildcats. Davidson last defeated the Deacons on Nov. 2, 1991. The Deacons lead the all-time series 22-17-2. In the teams' last meeting, Wake Forest cruised to a 12-0 victory, tying a school record for most goals scored in a game. Maeke Boreel and Claire Laubach both broke Deacon records in individual assists in a single game. They each tallied six that evening. This past weekend, Wake Forest dominated Ohio State, 6-0, followed by a 4-0 routing at James Madison. The Buckeyes managed one shot, but the Dukes failed to shoot. Kristina Gagliardi was credited with her first two career shut-outs. "The team performed extremely well over the weekend," said field hockey head coach Jennifer Averill. "I was very proud of our progress. We look forward to hosting Davidson and playing at home this week." The Deacons have a full slate this week. After Wednesday's game with Davidson, Wake Forest hosts Duke at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Louisville at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Duke game will be a rematch of the 2003 ACC and NCAA Championship games. The Deacons have not played Louisville since the 2002 season, when Wake Forest pocketed the 4-3 road victory.
