Oct. 17, 2003

Winston-Salem, NC - The top ranked Wake Forest field hockey team travels to Chapel Hill Sunday to face the second ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. The Deacs (12-1, 3-0) defeated the Heels (13-1, 2-1) on September 26 on an overtime goal from Kelly Doton, which gave the Deacs the 2-1 victory.

North Carolina leads the all-time series 23-9-3. Wake has not lost to Carolina since October 10, 2000, when the Tar Heels captured the 4-3 overtime win.

Wake Forest suffered it's first loss of the season last Sunday to fourth ranked Duke, who hosts the Tar Heels on Saturday in Durham at 1:00 pm. Duke fell to Carolina, 4-1, earlier this season. The Carolina squad was handed their only loss of the year by the Lady Deacs.

The Deacs, ranked #1 in the country for the sixth week in a row, look to remain at the top after Sunday's game. Action is set to begin at 1:00 pm in Francis E. Henry Stadium.
