GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest field hockey’s Shannon Eby was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Eby, a redshirt senior back, recorded one goal in the team’s 4-0 win over Davidson on Sunday, Oct. 22 and anchored a Demon Deacon defense that did not allow a goal in their two games over the weekend.

On Friday, Oct. 20 against No. 9 Boston College, Eby helped Wake Forest to a 3-0 win that allowed the team a 3-3 conference record and the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament, where the Deacs will face North Carolina. Playing on the back line, Eby helped stifle the No. 9 Eagles offense, allowing them only four total shots and two penalty corners for the game. The shutout was the team’s first of 2017.

Then, in the team’s final regular season road game at Davidson, Eby scored the game-winning goal in the Deacs 4-0 win and led a defense that did not allow the Wildcats a single shot attempt.

Last week, Eby was selected by the NFHCA to play in the Division I Senior Game in Louisville on Friday, Nov. 17.

This season, Eby has tallied a career-high 11 points, totaling a career-best three goals to go with five assists.
