Wake Forest Ends Regular Season at No. 16 Boston College
Oct. 25, 2012
By Currie McFayden, Wake Forest Athletic Communications (@SIDeacons) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest (8-9, 1-3 ACC) will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. for its final regular season matchup of the year against No. 16 Boston College (9-8, 1-3 ACC). The meeting will mark the fourth straight season in which the Demon Deacons and Eagles have met in Wake's season finale. The Deacs have won three consecutive games in the series, including a 4-3 thriller keyed by Lizzie Rae's hat trick in the ACC Quarterfinals last season. Overall, Wake Forest is 12-2 against Boston College in a series that dates back to 1997. The Deacs are coming off a dramatic 4-3 victory over California on Senior Day last Sunday. After falling behind early and drawing even at the halftime break, Wake's offense exploded in the second half behind a pair of goals from Rae and an empty net score by Anna Kozniuk. The win maintained Wake's perfect all-time record against the Golden Bears. Jess McFadyen and Taylor Rhea are tied for the team lead with eight goals, but McFadyen has a slight edge with 21 total points. Krysta Wangerin and Jess Newak have led the Deacon freshmen this season, combining for nine goals and four assists, nearly 20 percent of the squad's production on the year. Boston College will be looking to rebound from two consecutive losses to Big East foes, dropping their last two outings to Connecticut (5-1) and Syracuse (4-2). Chapin Duke leads the Eagles with six goals and is tied with Virgynia Muma for the team lead in points with 12. Leah Settipane has been solid in goal as well with 78 saves and four shutouts this season.
Live stats for the game will be available here, and a full recap will be posted following the matchup on Friday evening. Next up for Wake Forest will be the 2012 ACC Field Hockey Tournament, which begins next Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C. Depending upon the outcomes of conference games this weekend, the Deacs could face a rematch with the Eagles in the first round. |
