WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 2 Wake Forest field hockey team travels to Louisville, Ky., for the semifinals of the 2005 NCAA Championship Tournament, where the Demon Deacons will face Duke, Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

Entering the semifinals as the three-time defending national champions, the Demon Deacons have the opportunity make history by winning their fourth consecutive title. Although Old Dominion, North Carolina and most recently Wake Forest, have all won three consecutive titles, no Division I field hockey team has won four in a row.

Wake Forest will begin its quest to the crown against Duke, a team that the Deacs meet frequently in the NCAA Tournament. The Deacs carry a 3-0 record in the NCAA Tournament play against the Blue Devils, defeating them in the championship game in both 2003 and 2004 and in the second round of 2002. Overall, Wake Forest is on a two game winning streak in the series, including a 2-1 victory earlier in the season.

If the Demon Deacons advance to the championship game, they will face either Maryland or Old Dominion on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Against the Terps, the Deacs will look to avenge the last meeting, a 3-2 victory by Maryland in the finals of the ACC Tournament. The match-up against Old Dominion will be a relatively new one for Wake Forest, having last played them during the 2001 season. In that game, the Deacs fell, 2-1.
