San Juan, PR - The Wake Forest women's golf team is currently in ninth place out of 15 teams after the first round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Dorado Del Mar Country Club in San Juan.

Wake Forest shot a twenty-four-over 312 in their first round of play in the spring season. The team trails Florida and Auburn by only two strokes after the first round. Duke leads the tournament after a team round of three-under for a 285 stroke total. The individual leader is Virada Nirapathpongporn, who shot a six-under round of 66.

The Deacons were led by junior Christine Hallstrom, who shot a 73 in her spring debut. Hallstrom used a strong front round score of 33 to pace her to a one-over par, eighth place tie in the first day of action. Ashley Hoagland also played well, firing a two-over 74 to tie her for 14th place. Deb Means, the only senior on the team, finished in a tie for 56th place after recording a nine-over 81. Mandy Goins followed three strokes behind her after shooting a 12-over par 84. Goins is currently tied for 67th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Demon Deacons was Joy Juskowich, who carded a 15-over 87 to put her in 73rd position. The event is her first tournament as a starter at Wake Forest.

The team will be back in action tomorrow for 18 more holes and will finish the tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 24th. Updates will be provided via www.wakeforestsports.com each day of the event.
