Deacons Shoot Second-Straight Round Of 304 At NCAA East Regional

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Wake Forest women's golf team shot a second-straight round of 16-over 304 on Friday at the NCAA East Regional and sits in a tie for 16th place with a round to play.

After an up-and-down day on Thursday in round one, the Deacons shot matching 8-over 152s on each nine at the Penn State Blue Course on Friday. Wake is nine shots behind Washington for eighth place heading into Saturday's final round. The top-8 teams and top-2 players not on those eight teams will earn a spot in the NCAA Championship.

Senior Cheyenne Woods made three bogeys and two birdies in her first five holes to start out at 1-over. She then played the final 13 holes at even-par and finished with a 1-over 73. She made three birdies on the day and now sits at 4-over for the tournament and tied for 24th.

Like Woods, freshman Allison Emrey made three birdies in her round on Friday and finished with a 2-over 74. After opening with a 78 on Thursday, Emrey is 8-over through 36 holes and in a tie for 55th.

Fellow freshman Marissa Dodd followed her opening round 73 with a 77 on Friday and is now 9-over for the tournament. Sophomore Olafia Kristinsdottir is two shots behind Dodd after opening with rounds of 77-78.

Junior Greta Lange posted her second-straight round of 12-over 84.

South Carolina continues to lead the team race as the Gamecocks shot a second round 294 and have opened-up a seven shot lead over SEC foes Alabama and Florida. Washington holds on to the eighth spot at 23-over par. The Huskies have a two-shot lead on Arizona State and trail seventh place Arizona by one shot.

Individually, Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova followed her opening round 67 with a 1-over 73 and has a three-shot lead at 4-under par. She leads two players who are 1-under par through 36 holes. Those three are the only players to break par over the first two days.

The Demon Deacons will start the final round in the afternoon wave on Saturday. Wake is paired with Central Florida for the third-straight day along with San Diego State. The group is set to start at noon off the tenth tee. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
