BRADENTON, Fla. - Senior Marissa Dodd led Wake Forest with an even-par 72 in the opening round of the NCAA Championship at Concession Golf Club on Friday. The Demon Deacons posted a team score of 310.

Twelve of the 24 teams did not complete the round due to lightning. There was a delay of an hour in the afternoon, and play resumed before being suspended again for the evening.

The Demon Deacons are tied for 20th in the team standings. Stanford is in the lead at 3-over, but did not finish the round. Duke posted the top round of the teams who finished, currently sitting second with a 5-over 293.

"The course played very tough today," head coach Dianne Dailey said. "It is difficult to hold shots in because of the speed and undulations of the greens. Everyone is going to have a high number on some of the holes and we just need to keep patient and stay focused. We learned a lot about the course today and will use that knowledge to improve our scores."

After completing the opening round tomorrow, the teams will have two more rounds of stroke play qualifying and then the top 15 teams and nine individuals (not on advancing teams) will play a final 18 holes to determine the individual champion and the top eight teams that will advance to match play. On May 26 there will be 36 holes of match play and then the match play championship will take place May 27.

Marissa Dodd led the Deacons with an opening-round 72. She carded three birdies on the day, including her last hole to finish the day even. She is tied for eighth in the individual standings.

"Marissa had an outstanding round today at even par," Dailey added. "She played very consistently and made some great birdies."

Sierra Sims finished the day with a 6-over 78 that included two birdies. Allison Emrey is one stroke behind her with a 7-over 79. She had the team's only eagle on the par-5 17th hole.

Mariana Sims turned in a round of 81 and Erica Herr rounded out the scores with an 82.

Pairings for the second round will be announced following the completion of the first round in the morning.
