HANAHAN, S.C. - The Wake Forest women’s golf team finished sixth at the Cougar Classic hosted by College of Charleston at the Yeamans Club. The Demon Deacons were led by junior Sierra Sims who tied for fifth.

The Demon Deacons posted rounds of 289-300-300 to finish in sixth place. Arkansas won the event, followed by Georgia and Virginia.

“The course was the winner today,” said head coach Dianne Dailey. “The greens were slick and firm with the pins tucked over false fronts. Birdies were hard to come by. Sierra and Erica played well, posting top-5 and top-20 finishes, respectively. Sierra recovered well from a double bogey on 9 with three straight birdies on the back. All the students had bright spots in their rounds but we need to continue our short game work. We have a quick turnaround before the next event and will need to take advantage our practice time.”

Sims finished in the top five at the Cougar Classic for the second-straight year. She fired rounds of 69-73-72 to finish 2-under. She tied for fifth with Alana Uriell of Arkansas. Last year Sims finished second at the event.

Sophomore Erica Herr opened the season with a top-20 finish. She tied for 17th after posting rounds of 71-73-76.

Senior Mariana Sims was 14-over for the weekend after rounds of 74-81-75. Freshmen Jennifer Kupcho finished one stroke behind Sims after rounds of 83-74-74. Antonia Eberhard tied with Kupcho at 15-over. She posted rounds of 75-78-78.

Next week the Demon Deacons will head to Greenville, S.C. for the Lady Paladin Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Furman Country Club.
