KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Wake Forest freshman golfer Emilia Migliaccio captured her first career title, winning the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate at Cherokee Country Club. Migliaccio finished the event at 9-under to post a one-shot victory in her second event as a Demon Deacon.

Migliaccio becomes the first Demon Deacon freshman to win an individual title since Michelle Shin won the 2010 ACC Championship. She is just the second Wake Forest women’s golfer to win in one of her first two collegiate tournaments, joining Stephanie Neill who won her second career start in 1991-92.

Migliaccio shot even par during Tuesday’s final round after posting rounds of 67 and 66 on Monday. Her total of 204 set a new tournament scoring record and her 9-under par score is a Wake Forest freshman record.

Migliaccio joins Jennifer Kupcho as an individual winner this season as Kupcho took the title at the season-opening Ocean Course Invitational at Kiawah Island. Those wins mark the first time since 2009-10 that two different Demon Deacons have won consecutive events when Shin’s ACC Championship followed Cheyenne Woods’ title at the Bryan National Collegiate.

“I’m really proud of Emilia and how she played today and all week,” said head coach Dianne Dailey. “After seven holes today she was three-over and got back to even par for the round. She displayed focus, patience and resilience all week. It is exciting to see her win in just her second event. As a team, there is room for improvement but we made major strides in areas which will help us in the future.”

The Demon Deacons finished T-7th at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate, shooting even par 284 during the final round to finish the event at 13-over.

Kupcho and Siyun Liu also had top-25 finishes at the tournament, both tying for 22nd place at 3-over. Kupcho shot a 2-under 69 during the final round, while Liu had an even par 71. Mai Dechathipat shot a season-best 2-over 73 on Tuesday to conclude the tournament at 16-over.

The Demon Deacons return to action Oct. 13-15 with the Lady Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Wake Forest is the reigning champion of the event, while Kupcho is the defending individual champion.
